After graduating in POLITICS and History after completing a Masters in Political Science, she discovered a new vocation thanks to an online accounting diploma.
Sarah Murphy, mother of Tallaght, said her Irish Accounting Technician (ATI) degree had caught the attention of employers.
Sarah Murphy, who is now an Account Manager at TMS Environment Consultancy Ld of Tallaght, developed a love for accounting while taking a year ahead of her Masters
Sarah, Account Manager at TMS Environment Consultancy Ltd in Tallaght, developed a love for accounting while taking a year before her Masters to work as a receptionist for South Dublin accounting software company Azyra Systems.
She quickly rose through the ranks and now hopes to become a graduate accountant.
“I left Azyra in 2011 to be a housewife for six years,” Sarah said.
“As I planned my return to the workforce in 2017, having really liked the accounting aspect of my previous job, I knew this was what I wanted to do. After very little experience, and a long career break, I was worried but the Diploma made my CV stand out. The experience was mostly irrelevant, a real testament to the program.
“The qualified accountants I asked all recommended it. They said it carried weight and that a lot of them started out that way. “
Registrations for the start of the academic year, from September, are now open, as well as online. It is also available at Technological University, Tallaght and many other colleges in Dublin.
ATI provides a nationally and internationally recognized accounting qualification, which can be achieved in as little as two years. Study can be full-time, part-time, and online.
The two-year degree program can also be the first step towards a full qualification in accounting.
“This is a cross-industry qualification that meets the needs of industry, practice and the public sector,” said Gillian Doherty, Director of Operations at Accounting Technicians Ireland.
